Intervention & Enrichment Planning Tool
Different evidence should be allowed to lead to different next steps.
Different evidence should lead to different next steps
The purpose of evidence is not to sort students permanently. It is to identify what each learner may need next and then collect new evidence to see whether the response helped.
Planning sequence
Standard → Evidence → Need → Response → New Evidence
For each student or group, ask:
- What is already secure?
- What exact part of the learning remains unfinished?
- Is the need prerequisite, misconception, practice, language/access, or something we still need more evidence to understand?
- What response matches that need?
- Who will provide it and when?
- What will students who are already secure do next?
- What evidence will show whether the response worked?
Avoid the two traps
Intervention trap: repeating the same lesson louder or longer without identifying the actual need.
Enrichment trap: giving more of the same work to students who already understand the learning.
